I mean who can resist Anna Maria Horner's new fabric line? </span></span></span></span></span></span><br />

<span style="color: #666666;"><span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">I absolutely love getting holiday cards in the mail. I anxiously check the mailbox every day starting December 1st. After the holiday season is over I keep them in a box. I've been collecting them for about 10 years now and it's so fun to see families growing and changing. I recently saw a great idea by <a href="http://www.craftinessisnotoptional.com/2012/12/merry-christmascard-idea.html" target="_blank">Jess for keeping cards organized</a> by year. I'm totally going to do this!</span></span><br />
<br />
<span style="color: #666666;"><span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">p.s. if you read my blog and recognize your card and wonder why your child looks quite alien it's because I blurred out all the faces. </span></span><br />

<span style="color: #666666;"><span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">I'm pretty happy she chose this costume idea because I have such a soft spot for not only the books but the 1970's t.v. show. We record the old episodes and watch them as a family. </span></span><br />

<span style="color: #666666;"><span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">I spent the better part of this year hunting down the right fabric online. The sherpa was pretty hard for me to find. The fur isn't exactly what I wanted but close enough. I'm pretty sure this is my one and only time I will sew with either of these fabrics. Not fun.</span></span><br />
<span style="color: #666666;"><span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;"><br /></span></span>
<span style="color: #666666;"><span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">The whiskers are fake leather jewelry cord. I just knotted one end and poked it through the fabric and hand stitched on place. Although I didn't get a good picture of them they are one of my favorite details. </span></span><br />
<span style="color: #666666;"><span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;"><br /></span></span>
<span style="color: #666666;"><span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">I'm pretty sure just about no one will know what he is but I don't care because I love it! I'm furiously finishing up Luca's costume. She is going as Laura Ingalls Wilder and I'm pretty sure there will be a large portion of the community that has no idea who she is either. Rocco is going as Einstein... let's see who can figure that one out. Actually he's wearing a crazy white wig a lab coat and carrying a clipboard with E=mc2 printed out so let's hope our community can figure that out. If not we are hopeless.</span></span>Saschahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11764868375350676901noreply@blogger.com13tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-157380380230545874.post-74456450526926001572012-09-18T16:37:00.002-07:002012-09-18T16:54:30.508-07:00Bat Hat<span style="color: #666666;"><span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;"><br /></span></span>

<span style="color: #666666;"><span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">A few months ago Parenting magazine contacted me about making a <a href="http://sascharomeo.blogspot.com/2011/10/one-down-two-to-go.html" target="_blank">bat hat</a> for their October 2012 cover. In all the craziness that's been going on around here I actually forgot about it until someone kindly emailed me the link to this cover. I wasn't sure about which size they would need so I made them three. I also had no idea how the rest of the outfit would be styled and I love it. </span></span><br />
<br />
<span style="color: #666666;"><span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">Now I need to find a copy of this magazine which has proven very elusive in my neck of the woods. </span></span><br />

</div><div style="color: #666666; font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">A certain <a href="http://fakeitwhileyoumakeit.blogspot.com/2012/08/im-published.html" target="_blank">brilliant mommy</a> came up with the idea to create a cookbook with her family's favorite recipes and adorable photos to go with each. Totally brilliant right? </div><div style="color: #666666; font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; color: #666666; font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg7fqd4_JCiLgmUt3VzJBYO6v1PvYa2Ih5ebi2gvTz1oyZY7ig-sfGbJh9AwzEFry5q3vhwNJtOAcs3uYbT87nPOPPJmyoRMUz30QGMne4bKVYRA8mab5sOubnlSV9CQ4UjLh0eMglN72ZI/s1600/banana+bread.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg7fqd4_JCiLgmUt3VzJBYO6v1PvYa2Ih5ebi2gvTz1oyZY7ig-sfGbJh9AwzEFry5q3vhwNJtOAcs3uYbT87nPOPPJmyoRMUz30QGMne4bKVYRA8mab5sOubnlSV9CQ4UjLh0eMglN72ZI/s640/banana+bread.png" width="436" /> </a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; color: #666666; font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif; text-align: center;">{<strike>Bon Jovi</strike> Vinny helping with banana bread} </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; color: #666666; font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; color: #666666; font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif; text-align: left;">I promptly decided to copy the idea even though I really can't cook. </div><div style="color: #666666; font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;"><br />
</div><div style="color: #666666; font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">Wow! The day FINALLY arrived. I really, really love my kids but I needed some space. I finally got a few hours of me time. Vinny only goes two days a week but it's a start.</div><div style="color: #666666; font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiEVZbH30XsnIeSq-LPzGOPmIeR6z7geWVK6oEOpNDo_qLoOipNpnQuNM-OizbDPMy94GAypONuwteMWauPLCz3riJuZPcAQgJo9KK3BAynF1WF7-ek60CZuUpS1ZFZuZ-e78jTyCwvmtFP/s1600/vinny+day+one+2.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiEVZbH30XsnIeSq-LPzGOPmIeR6z7geWVK6oEOpNDo_qLoOipNpnQuNM-OizbDPMy94GAypONuwteMWauPLCz3riJuZPcAQgJo9KK3BAynF1WF7-ek60CZuUpS1ZFZuZ-e78jTyCwvmtFP/s640/vinny+day+one+2.png" width="640" /></a></div><div style="color: #666666; font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;"><br />
</div><div style="color: #666666; font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">So here's the first awkward segue of the day. A lot of people are commenting on the Jon Bon Jovi hair that the little rascal is sporting.</div><div style="color: #666666; font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh85Sy9LC1HZFBZCt83wQUSX3YTDSro1UxHTpQpMY6dSyAI5nw5mIYlczPwJ2smB4ebNzSiTWiuavt4JQSQp2JkImFyFgg_xs9kAvlsvMXCkNG28Qyf6u6SyvROIToOrccQ18fBGVU0pmtp/s1600/BonJovi276.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh85Sy9LC1HZFBZCt83wQUSX3YTDSro1UxHTpQpMY6dSyAI5nw5mIYlczPwJ2smB4ebNzSiTWiuavt4JQSQp2JkImFyFgg_xs9kAvlsvMXCkNG28Qyf6u6SyvROIToOrccQ18fBGVU0pmtp/s400/BonJovi276.png" width="400" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"></div><br />
<div style="color: #666666; font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;"></div><br />
<br />
<div style="color: #666666; font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;"><br />
</div><div style="color: #666666; font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">Yes. There is definitely a resemblance, But I am glad that when Chef cut Vinny's hair we didn't end up with this result.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"></div><br />

</div><div style="color: #666666; font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">Awkward segue number two...</div><br />
<div style="color: #666666; font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;"><br />
</div><div style="color: #666666; font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">We are so fortunate to live in a rural setting but within close range to big city lifestyle. </div><div style="color: #666666; font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgA-cr1-pTlMIoXXC_IXLfewfx_yrS-SWTNAhEUvIsVqDKUG1mEmv7eq2vCTgCtnwAHwfnnZ1RVqR5NXGeTqLa_Lj3RQN2D8iSxEKBhd-gM_lHTkSYB6UGDPHpUdD3moEI8EbV0QObeDMQm/s1600/school+view.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgA-cr1-pTlMIoXXC_IXLfewfx_yrS-SWTNAhEUvIsVqDKUG1mEmv7eq2vCTgCtnwAHwfnnZ1RVqR5NXGeTqLa_Lj3RQN2D8iSxEKBhd-gM_lHTkSYB6UGDPHpUdD3moEI8EbV0QObeDMQm/s640/school+view.png" width="426" /></a></div><div style="color: #666666; font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif; text-align: center;"> <span style="font-size: x-small;">{just down the road from the preschool. Complete with "no hunting/trespassing" signs}</span></div><div style="color: #666666; font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;"><br />
</div><div style="color: #666666; font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">I love our local preschool for so many reasons but the first is that it focuses on play based learning. On day one they had a huge water table set up, a finger painting station that looked like a paint factory exploded and a play-doh table piled so high the kids couldn't see to the other side. Most of the days are spent outdoors which is pretty awesome. There is no limit on water play (I guess they know my Vinny), if your child gets soaked that's what spare clothes are for. Actually we have two extra sets in his cubby.</div><div style="color: #666666; font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;"><br />
</div><div style="color: #666666; font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">So what did I do with my first day of freedom in 3 years? I contemplated going home for a nap. Seriously. What I did was almost as good... I went and got my nails done! Yay me. The last manicure/pedicure I had done was about 3 days before Vinny was born (I like clean toes for the whole birthing process). </div><div style="color: #666666; font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEihyphenhyphensTChS4L338E-XbNtTGmuIEedIhzMA3iaiDLG5Os-5HwinwlurWOtXq6P-7nZP-uZku87CeeZ7Zjef1Kjjil0-nsic7yr6cAq-uYDA-vLs3M7A4PDMsNnL2BTtzhyphenhyphenvYtElAbExfvmJMu/s1600/photo-11+copy.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEihyphenhyphensTChS4L338E-XbNtTGmuIEedIhzMA3iaiDLG5Os-5HwinwlurWOtXq6P-7nZP-uZku87CeeZ7Zjef1Kjjil0-nsic7yr6cAq-uYDA-vLs3M7A4PDMsNnL2BTtzhyphenhyphenvYtElAbExfvmJMu/s320/photo-11+copy.jpg" width="320" /></a></div><div style="color: #666666; font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif; text-align: center;"><span style="font-size: x-small;">{Photo via Instagram}</span></div><div style="color: #666666; font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;"><br />
</div><div style="color: #666666; font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">Did you just catch segue number three? Awkward I know. I joined <a href="http://instagram.com/" target="_blank">Instagram</a> about 2 years ago and set my photos to private. I liked to use it as a photo filter app and my sister was my only allowed viewer. Well recently I've been looking at the great photos all you guys put out there and decided to go public! Yay me again. All in one blog post. Pats self on back with happy new nails. </div><div style="color: #666666; font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;"><br />
</div><div style="color: #666666; font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">So if you are on Instagram and wish to see pictures of the Romeos in day-to-day life, my user name is <i>sascharomeo</i>. Wow, simple. Just like my actual name. </div><div style="color: #666666; font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;"><br />
</div><div style="color: #666666; font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">p.s. Before I went public I deleted a few photos of the kids that would be inapropriate for general audience *read: in the bath full monty*. If I missed any and you notice please let me know so I can get them out of the public eye. Thnx. </div><div style="color: #666666; font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;"><br />

</div><div style="color: #666666; font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">Our deck needs major TLC. The kind that can really only be remedied by, oh, let's say $8,000. Srsly. The entire deck needs to be replaced. It's 32 year old redwood and it's HUMONGOUS! So instead I pretend it's not rotting under our feet and try to pretty it up. </div><div style="color: #666666; font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; color: #666666; font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgd9JX5NKyOji4WL7UYEsLjUeyIHT53RZxl6TzhJd238BhasOSod4zAH_dCeod6vteII6yX5b4P4FmbVDF_wt5bZFtxzUq8bsjn6yHzIGsMAaJYBOQGvJDmaSQiYrajL4EmLsRf9cObQSna/s1600/IMG_4725+-+Version+2.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgd9JX5NKyOji4WL7UYEsLjUeyIHT53RZxl6TzhJd238BhasOSod4zAH_dCeod6vteII6yX5b4P4FmbVDF_wt5bZFtxzUq8bsjn6yHzIGsMAaJYBOQGvJDmaSQiYrajL4EmLsRf9cObQSna/s640/IMG_4725+-+Version+2.png" width="476" /></a></div><div style="color: #666666; font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;"><br />
</div><div style="color: #666666; font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">Yay! It's amazing what some patio furniture and an umbrella can do. I bought the rug at Kohls a few months back when it was on clearance and had those Kohls cash things and and additional whatever they were giving away that day. I bought two rugs and it barely covers the splintering mess. </div><div style="color: #666666; font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;"><br />
</div><div style="color: #666666; font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">Our back deck is really big. Like probably 1,000 sq. feet big. Not really sure since recently I tried to measure for the cost of replacement wood and I quickly gave up. We have two other decks that are also in dire need of replacement. Ugh. Damn you dry rot *shakes fist at sky*.</div><div style="color: #666666; font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;"><br />
</div><div style="color: #666666; font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">The umbrella is from Costco. Probably last year, but I think they carry them every season. We've been through a few because we are careless assholes. If you take care of yours I'm sure they last longer than one Summer and I highly recommend this purchase. Fire pit is clearance from Target like 5 years ago. Copper and aging beautifully. </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; color: #666666; font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif; text-align: left;">Oh and the whole reason for this post is to say I planned on making a Moroccan pouf but Fabric.com sold out of the fabric I chose and the square pillow fabric was meant for a square pillow so now I've put that project off to the side most likely until next Spring even though where I live it's pretty close to Springtime year round. I saw <a href="http://www.bhg.com/decorating/do-it-yourself/accents/make-a-pretty-pouf/" target="_blank">this</a> pouf tute and thought to myself "hey lady, you can surely do this in no time". And by no time I mean have NO time. </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; color: #666666; font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif; text-align: left;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; color: #666666; font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif; text-align: left;">Soon the deck will rot beneath my feet and I will have no worries about how to best pretty up this outdoor space. </div><div style="color: #666666; font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;"><br />

</div><div style="color: #666666; font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">Rocco and Luca start back to school next week... and then... can it be true? Yes, finally Vinny starts preschool (oh when I type it out I get excited). He's a handful and to finally have a moment of peace and quiet will be wonderful. I can finally pee without an audience.</div><div style="color: #666666; font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh_pe5bFhBzO_vcBL4bXAkkH7zmcnvS13mIuTsmEVVPtx0q6Qk85Z57EbzCxusK7XEjwRe5hJmfn9w7aNoeoJt97dVDvhB-6-CVY7kQMfZLql3ICbqnkcoYK5LsauuyRDmTLbRx4oM6P6FH/s1600/cars+backpack.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh_pe5bFhBzO_vcBL4bXAkkH7zmcnvS13mIuTsmEVVPtx0q6Qk85Z57EbzCxusK7XEjwRe5hJmfn9w7aNoeoJt97dVDvhB-6-CVY7kQMfZLql3ICbqnkcoYK5LsauuyRDmTLbRx4oM6P6FH/s640/cars+backpack.png" width="426" /></a></div><div style="color: #666666; font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;"><br />
</div><div style="color: #666666; font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">I've been waiting three years to make a <a href="http://www.made-by-rae.com/2009/03/toddler-backpack/" target="_blank">Toddler Backpack</a> for Vinny's first day of school! He asked for a cookie monster backpack so he's not exactly thrilled with this one. It's hard to tell from the photo but I found a cookie monster zipper pull on Ebay to make up for it. </div><div style="color: #666666; font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;"><br />
</div><div style="color: #666666; font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">Rocco and Luca are using the same backpack as last year. Luca loves hers so much she tells us that she's taking it with her to college. She has no less than twelve "danglies" hanging from the back. </div><div style="color: #666666; font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhtGmDfqOjTaqJofr5D1mjnkZcW7slcQISaB3TO92ok3zU_h0md6IMRTFZGHjt9MbpYnue_mMy1UyqEdjiYX8thOUxNoOpnLbLbjA7UQvw0mWDAgI8u8mMju4-1z5N-vt-O56POmxeasg-S/s1600/lunchbox.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhtGmDfqOjTaqJofr5D1mjnkZcW7slcQISaB3TO92ok3zU_h0md6IMRTFZGHjt9MbpYnue_mMy1UyqEdjiYX8thOUxNoOpnLbLbjA7UQvw0mWDAgI8u8mMju4-1z5N-vt-O56POmxeasg-S/s640/lunchbox.png" width="426" /></a></div><div style="color: #666666; font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;"><br />
</div><div style="color: #666666; font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">The lunchbox on the chair was Rocco's from preschool. It's an old metal lunchbox with the Metallica Master of Puppets album artwork. I married an old school metal fan what can I say? I'm sure the teachers at school will have some comments on that one. </div><div style="color: #666666; font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiMejvmcvHMpwRZhodhmdC-Zj_gtclAQZp5JoExC_DZGgR9n75jQX7Dlhhy99E7eTziED3yBKzYBIDwNCYebegU5VMIRXdfp7VYVi9_TBtSCtCaEMHEPWo64FBdCpd5ancXPDayMYJR_MmX/s1600/piping.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="426" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiMejvmcvHMpwRZhodhmdC-Zj_gtclAQZp5JoExC_DZGgR9n75jQX7Dlhhy99E7eTziED3yBKzYBIDwNCYebegU5VMIRXdfp7VYVi9_TBtSCtCaEMHEPWo64FBdCpd5ancXPDayMYJR_MmX/s640/piping.png" width="640" /></a></div><div style="color: #666666; font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;"><br />
</div><div style="color: #666666; font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">I made the bigger version of the backpack. I used a chunky jacket zipper which turned out pretty cute. The piping kicked my butt. I also sandwiched interfacing in between the outer fabric and the "lining" to give it more body. I did not line this backpack like <a href="http://www.made-by-rae.com/backpack-update/" target="_blank">her instructions</a> because I didn't think I could actually swing it. This way I had to use bias tape on all the seams which was a pain but gives a nice finished look. I forgot to take a picture of that. Oh well. </div><div style="color: #666666; font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjuqytGvKi3TxBaPkbmxyA3WFbB_TmgTGjoW60Hf9equSLtTMN67icha2FNeI63DtCaK_3QlR4HREY7wXv9BAR9ybpbseoe4O7DVQJYqLUihOyCzVLBFUDbSPMCD5G1qcpU80BfFDzrHyxX/s1600/lining.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjuqytGvKi3TxBaPkbmxyA3WFbB_TmgTGjoW60Hf9equSLtTMN67icha2FNeI63DtCaK_3QlR4HREY7wXv9BAR9ybpbseoe4O7DVQJYqLUihOyCzVLBFUDbSPMCD5G1qcpU80BfFDzrHyxX/s640/lining.png" width="426" /></a></div><div style="color: #666666; font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;"><br />
</div><div style="color: #666666; font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;"><br />
Not exactly sure what fabric the lining is. I'm pretty sure I bought it intending some shorts for Vinny. See near my thumb the piping that has black thread? I need to use the seam ripper one of these days to remove the stitch lines. For now I'm over it. </div><div style="color: #666666; font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;"><br />
</div><div style="color: #666666; font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">I do love the backpack and highly recommend the pattern. Rae's instructions are great and easy to follow.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"></div>Saschahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11764868375350676901noreply@blogger.com7tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-157380380230545874.post-75431997469776723752012-08-08T20:48:00.000-07:002012-08-08T20:48:47.564-07:00Lucy Goosey<div style="color: #666666; font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;"><br />

</div><div style="color: #666666; font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">We haven't cut Vinny's hair since he was born just about three years ago. He has the best hair of all the children and we just couldn't cut those long golden curls. </div><div style="color: #666666; font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiVzbdwcvXqvsDQH3ZuyQd22IFMRtGbJwLv4rbMlJrxq0Pu8uFJbYXzLBsoyreKmW5wP3l9IUf7AJ37DsfA0mzx0ZZB9QqNBZbp_vePUGDctQ5DKynBZQoVoQoerx1qeHa5O5N7u2ilrnHS/s1600/fourth+hair.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiVzbdwcvXqvsDQH3ZuyQd22IFMRtGbJwLv4rbMlJrxq0Pu8uFJbYXzLBsoyreKmW5wP3l9IUf7AJ37DsfA0mzx0ZZB9QqNBZbp_vePUGDctQ5DKynBZQoVoQoerx1qeHa5O5N7u2ilrnHS/s400/fourth+hair.png" width="240" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"></div><div style="color: #666666; font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;"><br />
</div><div style="color: #666666; font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">In the past few months his hair has gotten a bit unruly. As evidenced in this lovely picture. Most days he has such a tangle in the back that it looks like we are starting dread locks. This is a photo of him on the Fourth of July. I included this picture because he's wearing all mama made. Whoo hoo. </div><div style="color: #666666; font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;"><br />
</div><div style="color: #666666; font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhTL2kZ2YBFFRyPOLlYqpm3RZ0I0H_X9_EU5tH9ABmjoOXh1xnMLHU7vYsJrQ93sqmPSYRuihW7pKYb6oh6T3S4PnRfa8-APd90vbK4j5b5kBX5FH6o6FaEfCm4I4OeuTZagvIXEmgNpPFv/s1600/haircut+collage+1.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="160" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhTL2kZ2YBFFRyPOLlYqpm3RZ0I0H_X9_EU5tH9ABmjoOXh1xnMLHU7vYsJrQ93sqmPSYRuihW7pKYb6oh6T3S4PnRfa8-APd90vbK4j5b5kBX5FH6o6FaEfCm4I4OeuTZagvIXEmgNpPFv/s640/haircut+collage+1.png" width="640" /></a></div><div style="color: #666666; font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;"><br />
</div><div style="color: #666666; font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">Daddy is the resident barber around here so the first haircut took place in our living room. About halfway through the haircut Vinny decided to get up and walk around. That made things a little tricky. Luckily the look we were going for is surfer shag so straight cuts aren't important. I have yet to get a decent photo of the new do. I will try soon.</div><div style="color: #666666; font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;"><br />
</div><div style="color: #666666; font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">...On to the THE BIG EFFIN' ELEPHANT IN THE ROOM...</div><div style="color: #666666; font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;"><br />
</div><div style="color: #666666; font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">Thank you to everyone who commented about my dad passing. It means more than I can express. I know I should write something about it soon. More for me than anything. I'm just in the denial stage right now and it's a nice place to hang out. My dad died 8 days after being diagnosed with cancer so needless to say we were all in shock. </div><div style="color: #666666; font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;"><br />
</div><div style="color: #666666; font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">The haircut is important because although my dad never said a thing about Vinny's hair I'm pretty sure he didn't really like how long it was getting but at the same time was so proud that he looks like such a little Dutch boy. He loved those pretty blond curls. Also, my dad is extremely proud of the blue eyes he has passed down to me and two of my children. It's like he could say that the Dutch gene is all powerful and overrides the Italian that Chef brings to the table. </div><div style="color: #666666; font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;"><br />

</div><div style="color: #666666; font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">I haven't really felt like doing much these past few weeks. I'm lacking motivation. It's all because I have some serious Spring organizing that needs to be done and I'm overwhelmed by the sheer magnitude of crap that I have around my house. </div><div style="color: #666666; font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhI_wjTr_EJ1o_EolTln8p3T6-4EN0otJzrR-it7tNrnRdg_Da15mH1yYKSl63_IzB8E2Mk5dHEBtDHhlRLu0uH1L_0a7dhe-M5lMHwbX4qZfpPIVEtU8XNwV_IqFRa_asoaNpMgkQpyKWq/s1600/IMG_3619.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="426" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhI_wjTr_EJ1o_EolTln8p3T6-4EN0otJzrR-it7tNrnRdg_Da15mH1yYKSl63_IzB8E2Mk5dHEBtDHhlRLu0uH1L_0a7dhe-M5lMHwbX4qZfpPIVEtU8XNwV_IqFRa_asoaNpMgkQpyKWq/s640/IMG_3619.JPG" width="640" /></a></div><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><span style="color: #666666; font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">The doll sits with half a head of hair patiently waiting to be finished. She lies among too many other unfinished projects that are piled on this spare dining room table. </span></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><span style="color: #666666; font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">Spare dining room table? This table is a daily reminder that <i>last</i> Spring I brought it into the house out of storage so that it could be used during the re-finishing of our current dining room table. Now both tables are filled with junk and no re-finishing has been done. *Sigh*</span></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><span style="color: #666666; font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">Just writing this both aggravates and motivates me to kick myself in the butt and just get something done! So I'm off to tackle a small project that will make a dent in my cluttered house. Possibly something crafty. </span></div>Saschahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11764868375350676901noreply@blogger.com6tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-157380380230545874.post-29745469288457769172012-05-04T16:08:00.000-07:002012-05-04T16:08:51.647-07:00Doll Progress<div style="color: #666666; font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;"><br />
</div><div style="color: #666666; font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">I love you guys! Thanks for the comments on my last post. It's not like I thought I was alone in this crazy crafting madness, but it feels good to hear it every once in a while. It really got me thinking about how it all started for me. I have specific memories as a child starting projects and getting sidetracked by new projects. </div><div style="color: #666666; font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;"><br />
</div><div style="color: #666666; font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">As an adult it has spread to not only include crafting, but gardening projects that are half done, a couch that is not upholstered so it's covered in fabric pieces, drywall primed and not painted for over 6 years now! </div><div style="color: #666666; font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;"><br />
</div><div style="color: #666666; font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">There is no method to my madness.</div><div style="color: #666666; font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjAHbevEgo4CFjdm1iGYr_fwIZbeS4LXNylZIvXOGFU7KgMV-i4ncz-mbwQtk26Kjilar7M1vdj3BzYJmQgPpoibpMh4pU4w0EeNZsHo80K6OncswXq52HJ8LuN7OVv8w8hzk0qKI-P9T6p/s1600/doll+face+2.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjAHbevEgo4CFjdm1iGYr_fwIZbeS4LXNylZIvXOGFU7KgMV-i4ncz-mbwQtk26Kjilar7M1vdj3BzYJmQgPpoibpMh4pU4w0EeNZsHo80K6OncswXq52HJ8LuN7OVv8w8hzk0qKI-P9T6p/s640/doll+face+2.jpg" width="470" /></a></div><div style="color: #666666; font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;"><br />
</div><div style="color: #666666; font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">Let me tell you something. The lighting is covering a ton of flaws on this doll. I should wait till night and take some pictures with a flash. </div><div style="color: #666666; font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEijIHpgaiXN7vUAzGPQhM_D3dYOPAq49tf0WsYDdCqVL9I0SZLg7fb0fz3FbcrqTdyp-oKh7ceKj0vWzlCTd5yy6nY6QZQV63ra-o2FJAo-g9QSwJ2dqspARlHrCa9dtkmCF0tPX2X3psWc/s1600/doll+face+3.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEijIHpgaiXN7vUAzGPQhM_D3dYOPAq49tf0WsYDdCqVL9I0SZLg7fb0fz3FbcrqTdyp-oKh7ceKj0vWzlCTd5yy6nY6QZQV63ra-o2FJAo-g9QSwJ2dqspARlHrCa9dtkmCF0tPX2X3psWc/s640/doll+face+3.jpg" width="426" /></a></div><div style="color: #666666; font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;"><br />
</div><div style="color: #666666; font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">I made her with button joints and her arms and legs move nicely. Her legs are about an inch too long. She measures 17" and I was going for a 16" doll. </div><div style="color: #666666; font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgHv5jRR83I96hhKVZG2NtX1IUPYeLJtOQOGIC1HBWZS4IZo7zbx5Ii2oCRKtFl1tDEsOhup_vh35wQ55n7Q0d840xSwB5kufId5V8VyCsAYIeRYzGP7McpennXO1CxcIQ3wjn-jTpirz_O/s1600/doll+face+4.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgHv5jRR83I96hhKVZG2NtX1IUPYeLJtOQOGIC1HBWZS4IZo7zbx5Ii2oCRKtFl1tDEsOhup_vh35wQ55n7Q0d840xSwB5kufId5V8VyCsAYIeRYzGP7McpennXO1CxcIQ3wjn-jTpirz_O/s640/doll+face+4.jpg" width="426" /></a></div><div style="color: #666666; font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;"><br />
</div><div style="color: #666666; font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">Next step is her hair. She's going to have light brown hair even though Luca requested pink. I'll make a pink haired doll soon but I wanted this one to look like a mini Luca. The eyes are a bit too light but I didn't have good shades of blue embroidery thread on hand. </div>Saschahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11764868375350676901noreply@blogger.com10tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-157380380230545874.post-42283756292095813092012-05-02T17:42:00.000-07:002012-05-02T17:42:58.709-07:00Too Many Projects<div style="color: #666666; font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;"><br />

</div><div style="color: #666666; font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;"><br />
</div><div style="color: #666666; font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">I have a problem starting too many projects at once. I see something on a blog or Pinterest and I feel an uncontrollable urge to run out and buy supplies immediately. </div><div style="color: #666666; font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;"><br />
</div><div style="color: #666666; font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">Let's see...</div><div style="color: #666666; font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;"><br />
</div><div style="color: #666666; font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">- When Rae came out with her <a href="http://www.made-by-rae.com/patterns/" target="_blank">Toddler Backpack pattern</a> I totally bought all the fixins'. That was two years ago and I have yet to make ONE backpack let alone the three backpacks I bought fabric for.</div><div style="color: #666666; font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;"><br />
</div><div style="color: #666666; font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">- I started two tops for the Spring Top Challenge... last year! Didn't even manage to make them THIS year. </div><div style="color: #666666; font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;"><br />
</div><div style="color: #666666; font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">- Last Spring I decided to refinish our dining room table and bought the stripper, sand paper, and stain. Maybe this Spring I'll do it.</div><div style="color: #666666; font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;"><br />
</div><div style="color: #666666; font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">- While planning on refinishing the table I bought oodles of fabric to make the kids personalized <a href="http://nanacompany.typepad.com/nanacompany/2011/08/-for-maddie.html" target="_blank">placemats</a> so the table wouldn't get ruined again. </div><div style="color: #666666; font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;"><br />
</div><div style="color: #666666; font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">- I bought a giant piece of wood for a <a href="http://www.etsy.com/listing/62356748/ruler-growth-chart-vinyl-decal" target="_blank">ruler size chart</a>. It's been sitting in my front hallway for a few months. I bought the number decals ages ago. </div><div style="color: #666666; font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;"><br />
</div><div style="color: #666666; font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">- Oh and we can't forget the <a href="http://www.purlbee.com/super-easy-baby-blanket/" target="_blank">baby blanket</a> I was supposed to knit for Vinny before he was born! I did buy about $80.00 in yarn for that.</div><div style="color: #666666; font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;"><br />
</div><div style="color: #666666; font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">There are many more. It's sad. I'm bringing this up because the last thing I need to do right now is get into doll making. I don't even have a daughter that plays with dolls. The logical thing to say would be "then sell them!" Um, seriously, doll making is like 200 times more difficult than any of the garment sewing I do. I have mucho respect for people who make gorgeous dolls like <a href="http://bybido.blogspot.com/" target="_blank">these</a>. </div><div style="color: #666666; font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;"><br />

It actually didn't take all that long to cut out the image (on freezer paper). I did it yesterday afternoon while the kids were doing homework. I used <a href="http://www.decoart.com/cgi-bin/Products.cgi?So-Soft_Fabric_Acrylics" target="_blank">So Soft</a> fabric paint. I've had good washing results with this paint in the past. I'm glad I set aside the dolls for this week. It's been so long since I've sat down and pumped out clothes like this. I have a pair of long shorts cut out in a totally inappropriate toddler color... white. What was I thinking? Well, I wanted to get rid of the fabric and I am doing a freezer paper stencil on it and white was the only color that worked for the design I am using. </div><div style="color: #666666; font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;"><br />

</div><div style="color: #666666; font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">I used a quilting cotton and it's a bit too stiff for my taste. I wish I had a huge stash of Heather Ross Mendocino to make this nightgown because that's the kind of weight fabric I would love. </div><div style="color: #666666; font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;"><br />

My understitching is showing. I did it on the wrong side of the yoke but I'm choosing to ignore that little oopsie. One thing that kind of bugs me is the top stitching. That is an area that I'm particularly picky about. </div><div style="color: #666666; font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;"><br />

</div><div style="color: #666666; font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">This pattern has some fiddly parts to it but as usual the instructions are perfect and I felt the pattern was pretty easy. I have a white nightgown cut out but it's Kona cotton so it's going to have the same stiffness to the finished garment. I should have used and old white sheet. One with high thread count to give it a softer feel to the skin. </div>Saschahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11764868375350676901noreply@blogger.com13tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-157380380230545874.post-1427739870656836272012-04-23T14:46:00.000-07:002012-04-23T14:46:43.345-07:00KCWC: Day One... realization sinking in<div style="color: #666666; font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;"><br />
</div><div style="color: #666666; font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">On Saturday we had a bit of a heat wave and I realized I have no shorts for Vinny. Then I realized that none of the projects I had planned for the <a href="http://www.elsiemarley.com/kcwc-spring-2012-day-one.html" target="_blank">KCWC</a> frenzy are shorts. I need to remedy that stat.</div><div style="color: #666666; font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgCfOEtLYFw3Q2nTgWjuDO0YIP54dHnwrxFD93E2FZoGApk7BI3closo8eY7HWUQH88J7-Fq3VRV8BtYdZPdMAsU5E1-_u_mBrtTXMjytwGnTVfgY1Ux7D-cxfDyHdjELkSRXpAww_dYGD6/s1600/Bus+collage+2.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="590" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgCfOEtLYFw3Q2nTgWjuDO0YIP54dHnwrxFD93E2FZoGApk7BI3closo8eY7HWUQH88J7-Fq3VRV8BtYdZPdMAsU5E1-_u_mBrtTXMjytwGnTVfgY1Ux7D-cxfDyHdjELkSRXpAww_dYGD6/s640/Bus+collage+2.jpg" width="640" /></a></div><div style="color: #666666; font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;"><br />
</div><div style="color: #666666; font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;"> I did pull out a <a href="http://sascharomeo.blogspot.com/2010/05/kids-clothes-week-day-two.html" target="_blank">pair of pants</a> that I made for Vinny almost exactly two years ago for the KCWC challenge and they fit. As shorts. I was totally shocked. That's one reason I love the pattern so much. It's really quite a roomy fit. They are below the knee totally adorable surfer style. They looked cute for about 10 minutes.</div><div style="color: #666666; font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;"><br />

</div><div style="color: #666666; font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">I ran out of doll fabric so I'm taking a break. For like maybe a day since the nearest fabric store is closed. I'm not usually a puzzle solver but that's what this feels like to me. I want to figure out the doll that is perfect to me. I made one leg and didn't love it yet so I tweaked the pattern a bit more. The arm I like but the hand needs work. I'm labeling all my pattern pieces so hopefully I don't get too confused. Another thing I just realized is that this cutie pie is going to be naked once she's finished. Looks like I better figure out some clothing for her. I think she will end up being 16". To give you a modern reference an American Girl doll is 18". So off I am to maybe work on my Spring Top Sewalong top.</div>Saschahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11764868375350676901noreply@blogger.com0
