What is he playing with? Looks like a traditional wood burner where people used to sit around to and keep warm during the winter... My grandma had one!
It is a wood burner. It's called a brasero. I have quite a few. More than I can display. My dad was a collector. He always loved them. That particular brasero in the photo is my favorite because it's so large.

We're the same way with breakable items - most of them are packed away or up high. Or so I thought, until my 3 year old recently took a nail to our flat screen television. *Bangs head on wall.*
