Since I have not been able to finish many projects lately I decided to start as small a project as possible so that I could have the satisfaction of actually completing something. So there!
I've been meaning to cover my pattern weights for ages and it was one of those things that I just figured would never get done. What made me finally get around to doing this simple little project was a conversation I had with a fellow sewer about pinning pattern pieces to fabric. I had never heard of it before. Silly me. I have now been educated that this is quite common practice. My friend also uses weights (like cans of tuna) for some of her projects. What she didn't know about was using large washers and nuts (as in 'n bolts). So we both learned something new.
I went to a couple of different hardware stores looking for really large washers and bolts. It was actually kind of hard in my area to find the super big sizes so I settled for what I could find. This was years ago so maybe they are more readily available now. To make them a little heavier I just hot glued two of each together before wrapping the ribbon around them.
I love how colorful they turned out
Now if I could just keep everything as organized as this photo. A girl can dream can't she?

I must do this! I use cans (tuna and pineapple rings work well) and it's SO not inspiring. But yours...yours are so colorful & pretty. And, I bet they don't run off missing at lunchtime!
Hi there. I saw your comment on my pattern weights, and clicked on over. I LOVE yours! Beautiful photos too! I've looked at your blog before via Spring Top Week 2010. I had an entry in the top 60 as well. Looking forward to it again this Spring.
Love these! As one who just finished pinning and unpinning a bunch of pattern pieces (for Christmas sewing), I was wishing I had some pattern weights ... will buy a handful of large nuts next time I'm at the hardware store. Thanks for the idea!
I used your idea and LOVE how they turned out!

Such a clever idea! They turned out really cute.
Oohh! What a clever idea! Off to home depot I go!
I LOVE this idea!!! I was introduced to using weights about a year ago and have several but I never thought to cover them. So much prettier and much more fun...maybe I'd be inspired to get more done if I had bright colored sewing weights??? LOL
I just found you today though Made By Rae - what an amazing blog!! I love this tip - I have been wanting to use pattern weights, but apparently was far too dense to think of using canned goods :) I will definitely be trying this soon!!
Love these! Can't wait to try it, I need more weights, and with an auto tech instructor husband I should be able to find what I need....I got more than plenty of ribbon! ;) Thanks for sharing!
I love your idea!!!! So glad you shared!!
I also really like your heart pins, where did you find them?
Thank you,
