Brooklyn Shrug

Luca has been asking for a shrug/bolero jacket thingy for a good year now. I've been meaning to just take an existing pattern and just fiddle with it until I found this garment in the book Sewing Clothes Kids Love. I've had the book for at least 9 months, but you know how that goes... tracing. Ugh.

So I clearly forgot to add hem allowance on the sleeves. I did remember to add seam allowances but I'll make it a little bigger next time. She also wants a little more coverage so she requested 2" longer and a little more swoop toward the chest. What a diva. I kid.

I also added a rib binding around the entire shrug (sorry for the lame pictures). I did the binding because during the final steps it was looking like the hemline would get wavy if I hemmed it. The ribbing is really cute and I'll be adding it to the next shrug which hopefully won't take another year to make.

p.s. I'll announce a winner for the baby carrier a little later.

I love how she has very particular ideas about what she wants. She's a fashionista in the making!
Very cute bolero...I'm going to need to check out that book now!

My youngest just saw your daughters shrug and asked for one too - guess I've got some tracing to do :) Your daughter's necklace is cute too.

I love this.....I made a shrug for myself, using this pattern as base, but obviously making it much bigger....I couldn't finish the edges successfully , so I ended up hand sewing them. They look ok from the outside, but Dog-rough on the inside! So I plan to steal your ribbing idea for the next one I make!
Thanks for the inspiration.
