The Name Game

When I first thought about starting a blog I really didn't think I would be posting about my sewing projects. Coming up with a name that I wouldn't get sick of after one month was difficult. I actually was so unsure that when I opened the Blogger account I used my actual name. That is one thing I knew I wouldn't grow tired of. I kind of wish I had just named my blog Sascha Romeo, but I didn't.

About the first 12 blog names I came up with were already taken. That became a little frustrating. Actually, in hindsight I am glad a few of them were already taken. They are cute, but just not me.

Then I decided since all my children have very Italian names, why not give the blog an Italian twist?  I did like the idea of using the Italian word for "little" (piccoli) paired with something. I think I Googled quite a lot of words that sound cute in English to see how they pair with Italian

little elephants = piccoli elefanti
little birds = piccoli uccelli
little babies/children = piccoli bambini (I think this was taken)
little owls = piccoli gufi
little friends = piccoli amici
little thugs = piccoli delinquente

Some roll off the tongue better than others. The funny part about all my "research" is that all I did was use babelfish for my translation. I figured it didn't matter much since who reads this blog anyway? What is funny is that I used the English to Italian translation, but if you reverse it to Italian to English translation my blog title becomes "little ones peas". Whatevs. I'm o.k. because bottom line is that I like the way piccoli piselli sounds so I went with it.

Why the long post? I guess I'm just wondering what the thought process was for you guys when it came time to naming your blog.

Mine started out Scooch Mama, Scooch being my son's nickname. I loved the name but it resembled another popular blog name out there. After my second son was born, he quickly gained the nickname, Monkey. So Scooch Monkey was born. Still at scoochmom (dot) blogspot (dot) com though :).

As a young mother, the old cliche "no use crying over spilt milk" helped remind me not to worry and fret, but to take a deep breath and enjoy my little ones, messes and all. I wanted to use it as a part of my brand, and eventually settled on "M is for milk" for my baby bibs and burps line. The reverse side of the tags says "no use crying over spilt milk!"

Is it bad that I've only started my blog six months ago but I can't remember the moment that I came up with the name? Am I losing my mind? (or is it already gone...)

I didn't think I would be blogging about sewing either when I started my blog. I thought I would be mostly posting about my boys, so I wanted a name that reflected my three boys, so I spent a few days trying to come up with words that indicated "3". "My three sons" and "boy cubed" were taken (and thank goodness because boy cubed sounds like I cut them up!) and so The Boy Trifecta was born. :)

To be quite honest I think that not having a name I like is why I have only made 1 post. And that I didn't think anyone would care what I had to say. Maybe I shouldn't care and just do it.

For me, I wanted something simple...one word. But to be honest, I love Sacha Romeo best of all your names! :) I think your name is really exotic sounding!

Mine is also named after my children- well letter from each of their names which I used to name my business "amareke"... it also means the leader of a fearsome tribe in the Maori bible( I discovered after googling it!) Fearsome tribe is about right so it stuck! But my life is full and varied so "Amareke makes", is just that!(Amareke cleans would be a boring blog!!)

I had a really hard time naming my blog I tried all kinds of things. Then I was listening to one of my favorite songs and it has a lyric that says: I break things down until they're small and friendly. And that was that. I love piccoli piselli btw.

I'm so glad you did this post because I've always wondered about your blog name! It makes you sound very fancy, & italian & awesome. Like a little vacation getaway. Sighhh. You can tell you're desperate for a vacation when your fellow blogs become one!

Samster Mommy has no fun, creative story. I nicknamed her Samster because she squeaked & twitched her nose like a hamster when she was a newborn. And hamster + samantha...well, you get the picture...

I named mine after my favourite song of that week when i started my craft blog. "Summer Sets In" is part of a line in "Gatekeeper" by Feist. I love summer and believe it's truly set into me. I'm not a winter person. I hope my crafty inspirations can bring summer to my readers, even in winter. loving your blog as of late!
