Er, um... panties anyone?

Recently I've been inspired by all my fellow sewists who have been venturing into the world of unmentionables. I guess they aren't really all that unmentionable since many of you are not only mentioning them, but making them and photographing them.

So I ordered a lot of stretch lace. Like probably enough to make a few hundred panties. Some of the lace I ordered is not really panty worthy. More like ice skating costume elastic. Luckily the majority is great and I can't wait to try it out. I'll keep you posted.

I love making my own, I think you'll never look back.

I love mine, and need to make more soon...You won't be sorry...have you got a pattern yet? I use a Danglez pattern, but I know Ottobre woman did one a while ago. Like with everything you make, a good pattern is half the battle.

i've been thinking of making some, I loved making the ones for my girls, they're so cute and perfect fit for them. where'd you get the stretch lace?

I definitely want to see what you do with the black lettuce edged stuff. I bought about 10 yards of that for 39 cents a yard recently, but heck, I didn't really think too hard about what I was going to *do* with it. Come to think of it, I have stretch lace in pink, red and orange as well. And purple. I just use it on the kids knit clothes for embellishments. Silly me. See what happens when you don't frequent either a real fabric store or the right blogs? Thanks for the big clue.

I emailed Anna the link but realized you may want to know where I purchased it from...

fast shipping. refunded excess shipping charge and all as pictured even though a few I should have known would not be exactly appropriate for undies! I'll have to save those for dance wear (if I ever got there!)

I keep wanting to do this! Are you just winging it or using tutorials? I'm so intrigued, yet I'm concerned they would fall apart relatively quickly without a serger.

thanks for adding a link to where you purchased the trim - I was about to ask! I have been experimenting with undies this past week. Still tweaking for the right fit, but I'm almost there and was just wondering where to get some nice trim. It takes so little fabric and is an instance where one is probably saving $ not buying RTW.

@Kimberly, I made one pair awhile ago without a serger and it has been holding up, it seems quite doable - go for it :)

You will have to let us know how it goes. I have also been wanting to try it out. I am such a tightwad when it comes to spending money on skivies. I always go for the clearance rack at Target and then they end up being hot pink with orange hearts on them and jazz. I want to make them for almost-free using scraps I have.

I inherited some of this lace recently (from a rummage sale) and I keep looking at what is obviously bra elastic thinking "what the heck am I gonna do with that?" Good luck with yours!
