I made my first item for Luca's new Summer wardrobe. I used a new pattern from Oliver + S called the Ice Cream Dress (which can be made into a shirt). Last week I gave you guys a sneak peek at the fabric colorway. I am inspired to make her new wardrobe by two ladies who are offering up a sewing challenge. The Pattern Challenge by Sarah from Come and See the Seitz and Make it, Wear it hosted by Andrea over at The Train to Crazy (love that blog title). If you haven't already gone over to their sites go on and see what it's all about, but not until I show you this cute top I made.
As usual the pattern instructions were easy to follow. Oliver + S patterns have great illustrations to go along with clear instructions. I'll definitely make this pattern again (well, sure, if I had more like 36 hours per day instead of a measly 24). Let's just say I have plans to make this pattern again in the dress version next time. The main fabric for the top is by moda fabrics and called Freebird Outdoors Geranium (pattern #32240). the Yoke is made from Freebird Butterflies Vanilla (pattern #32242).
Luca seems to like it well enough. Let's see if she actually wants to wear it to school. The only problem I have is that girls clothes tend to be made from quilting cottons that look better when pressed after washing. Who has time for ironing? not me. We'll wait and see how this looks after laundering.
